Not sure which one?

A quick way to choose

You hold a car licence only

Take the Vespa Primavera 50. In Croatia a category B licence carries the AM entitlement, so this is the one you may ride — and it is plenty for the old town and the beaches.

You hold A1, A2 or A

Take the Yamaha NMAX 125. Noticeably quicker, comfortable for two and relaxed on the coast road. All four are 2025 models.

Two of you riding

Both scooters are approved for two and both come with two helmets. For longer coastal days with a passenger, the NMAX is the easier ride.

Riding in Croatia

The rules, in plain language

None of this is complicated, but a few points differ from what you may be used to at home. Here is everything that actually matters on the road.

A car licence is not enough for a 125

Unlike Germany, Italy, Spain, France or Austria, Croatia does not let category B holders ride a 125. Above 50 cc you need A1 (or A2/A). With a plain car licence, take the 50 cc Vespa 50.

Helmets are mandatory — for both of you

A homologated, properly fastened helmet is required by law for the rider and the passenger. An unbuckled helmet counts as no helmet. That is exactly why two come with every scooter.

Lights on, all year round

Scooters and motorcycles must ride with dipped beam or daytime running lights in daylight every day of the year — not only in winter as for cars.

0.5 g/l — and zero under 24

The general blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l. For riders under 24 and for anyone holding a licence less than two years it is absolute zero. Fines run into four figures.

EU licence: nothing extra needed

An EU, EEA, Swiss or UK licence is valid as it is. If your licence was issued outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit alongside your national licence.

50 in town, 90 outside

50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads. 50 cc scooters are limited to 45 km/h by construction and are not permitted on motorways or expressways.

Questions about the scooters

Which scooter should I choose?

For two people in and around Zadar the Yamaha NMAX 125 is the better choice — quicker and more comfortable on the coast road. If you only hold a category B car licence, the Vespa Primavera 50 is the one you may ride.

I have a car licence — can I ride a 125 in Croatia?

No, and this is the single most common misunderstanding we deal with. Germany (B196), Italy, Spain, France and Austria let car-licence holders ride a 125 at home — Croatia does not. Here you need category A1 on your licence for anything above 50 cc. With a plain category B car licence you may ride our 50 cc Vespa Primavera, which is plenty for Zadar and the beaches nearby. We would rather tell you this before you book than at the counter — riding without the right category is uninsured and the fines are serious.

Can two people ride on one scooter?

Yes — every scooter in our fleet is approved for two, and two helmets are included for exactly that reason. The passenger must be able to reach the footrests, which in practice means roughly from the age of twelve.

How do you handle fuel?

You get the scooter with a full tank and bring it back full. There is a petrol station a few minutes away. If that does not fit your departure time, hand it back as it is and we refuel it for you at cost plus a small service fee.

How old are the scooters?

None of our scooters is older than five years, and the fleet is serviced in our own workshop. Tyres, brakes, lights and oil are checked before every single handover — not once a season.
